This is definitely my favourite holiday of the year! I love getting the house decorated all cozy for Christmas and ready for that special family time. Holiday décor naturally centres around the family room as that’s where we tend to spend the most time.
This year I’ve gone with a white, gold and silver aesthetic and kept the décor simple and soft. Focusing on four key areas: the couch, coffee table, shelves and mantle, here’s everything you need to get your family room ready for Christmas before you finish it off with a beautiful tree!
Here are my favourite Christmas décor pieces for this room:
PILLOWS & THROWS
Christmas-inspired pillows are perfect for instant holiday vibes. I recommend finding good pillow inserts so you can easily swap them out throughout the year to go with different holidays, seasons, and moods
This year, I bought these custom pillowcases on Etsy and even got an extra one as a gift for my brother and sister-in-law.
Of course, Christmas means extra cozy time on the couch so you’ll want to have a soft blanket to curl up in while you’re watching Christmas movies or sipping apple cider. I found this great throw at Indigo and they also have matching pillowcase covers if you want to get a complete set.
Decorating a coffee table, ottoman or side table is so much fun! I recommend gathering everything onto a tray and playing with different heights of two or more objects such as ornament balls and candles. You can also add twinkly lights to give it even more of a magical feel.
MANTLE & SHELVES
The focus of most living rooms is usually a fireplace or area with shelving so adding decorations here really brings the whole room together. I like to start with a garland or faux snow and build from there by adding a holiday sign, some Christmas trees, little houses, or reindeer decorations, a nativity scene, lights and of course the stockings!
