Over the last decade, I have definitely LEVELLED UP my skincare routine.
My nighttime routine started out simple: wash my face and then slather on some moisturizer before bed . But now that I’m older, understand my skin and products better, and have a bigger beauty budget, my skincare routine has expanded and become somewhat of a ritual.
Here are the skincare steps I follow every night:
Starting with a fresh, clean face is key before applying products. Opt for a creamy cleanser like Cetaphils’s Gentle Skin Cleanser. I’ve been washing my face with this since high school and it’s never let me down. After you’ve rinsed it off, pat dry with a clean towel. I like to leave a stack of face cloths next to my sink so every time I can use a clean one.
Time to prime that pretty face of yours and get it ready to absorb products! There are toners for oil control, exfoliation, and hydration. Whatever toner you choose, it’ll leave your skin balanced and beautiful. I prefer a moisture-rich toner like Dermalogical’s Multi-Active Toner
A serum with vitamin C is clutch for skincare. A brightener and protector all in one, this serum is strong so if you have sensitive skin, you may want to only apply every other night. I love this Banana Bright™ Vitamin C Serum by OLEHENRIKSEN
4. EYE CREAM
I prefer one that comes with a roller ball. The coolness cuts down fluid retention which leads to those pesky under-eye bags and since most eye creams are thinner than face creams, they go on first for the best absorption. My go-to eye cream is Clinique’s Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector
Derived from Vitamin A, retinoid can reduce fine lines and wrinkles by increasing collagen production. I use it every other night as not to irritate my sensitive skin. Right now I’m loving the Bio Retinoid Anti-Wrinkle Concentrate Oil from REN Clean Skincare. Just five drops covers my whole face and it smells amazingly woodsy.
Now it’s time to lock in all the products we’ve already applied to make them even more effective with a barrier of hydrating moisture. Apply by lightly pressing the product into your skin with the pads of your fingers and wait until it’s absorbed before going to the next step. I’m currently using Aqua Bomb Brightening Vitamin C Cream by Belif.
7. FACE OIL
Face oil seals in your moisturizer and helps it from evaporating. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate is super hydrating and smells incredible.

8. NECK CREAM
I started seeing some lines on my neck and started exploring neck creams. They are thicker than face creams and designed specifically to boost collagen and elastin that naturally diminishes over time. Don’t just use neck cream on your neck – your décolleté needs attention too! Apply it by swiping the product upward towards your jawline and don’t forget about the back of your neck too. I’m currently using Juice Beauty’s STEM CELLULAR™ Lifting Neck Cream and love the citrusy smell.
9. BODY CREAM
Skincare is a full body affair. I like to start with Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Body Gel Cream on my arms and legs and then massage in Clarins’ Foot Beauty Treatment Cream. I’ll then wash my hands and work in L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Intensive Hand Balm.

10. LIP MASK
The last step is a simple one: apply a lip mask. I’ve been using a lip mask everynight for a while now and definitely see, and feel, results. I wake up with softer, smoother lips and are visibly hydrated and healthy. My favourite right now is MILK Makeup’s Melatonin Overnight Lip Mask.
Following this 10-step nighttime skincare routine is a great way to unwind and get ready for bed with the bonus of waking up with incredible skin from head to toe.
